Middle Years

Science is about asking the question ‘why’ and having the determination and skills to persue the answer. It stimulates curiosity and an interest in the physical world around us. Through learning to think scientifically, students not only develop an understanding and appreciation of the physical world, but are also empowered to make educated decisions about themselves and the world they live in.

At the Bayview campus Science classes adopt a hands on approach to their studies. When learning about Physics students get involved in designing their own simple machines and use a range of computer software to investigate concepts such as light and electricity. With topics ranging from forces through to magnetism there is constant practical work taking place in the class.

For those who are keen biologists, our school has the Jawbone Marine Sanctuary on its doorstep and students have ready access to their own Marine room filled with everything from Port Jackson Sharks to sea stars. They also gain experiences with our classroom animals such as our Bearded Lizard and Green Tree frogs. These animals help to enrich students’ appreciation of the natural world.

Our brand new Science Laboratories are fully equipped for students to explore chemistry. From learning how to use a Bunsen burner through to investigating chemical reactions, students participate in a wide range of experiments and are able to develop their skills using a wide range of laboratory equipment.
