It read:
“WHS has quite a history, for it is the oldest suburban high school. Originally it was known as Williamstown Grammar School but in 1915 it was taken over by the State Government.”
The First World War was in progress at the time and Belgium was being overrun by the Germans. It was about this time that the school decided to form their own emblem. They took the colours of the Belgium flag (red, yellow and black) and the anchor as their crest due to the Lonsdale Naval Depot being situated near by on the corner of Melbourne Rd and Pasco St.
This building later acquired by the school was popularly know as “The Drill Hall” and was replaced by a modern School Assembly building in the early 1970s named after Mr. Laurie Parker a student and later as a parent, school councillor.
The motto “Hold Fast” comes from the influence of the Naval Depot.....
